Levi’s Women’s 501 ’81 Jeans

Levi’s 501 ’81 — 11″ rise, true straight leg, button fly. The highest-rise 501 reissue in production.

Description

The 501 ’81 is the highest-rise 501 reissue Levi’s has made in years — an 11″ rise on the 28, which is genuinely the tallest waistband in my drawer. If the Wedgie feels low, this is the upgrade. The cut is a true straight (not tapered like the Wedgie), so the hem sits right around 16.5″ on the 28 — roomier than the Wedgie but still within mom-jean range, not veering into relaxed territory.

The denim is rigid cotton, same as the Wedgie, and the shape of the thigh is roomier and more authentic-vintage. I wear these tucked in constantly because the rise actually stays put when I move. Honest note: because the leg is straight (not tapered), they sit differently over shoes — great with loafers and chunky sneakers, less flattering with delicate flats because the ankle reads wider. Button fly takes getting used to. Rigid cotton will shrink about half an inch in length after the first hot wash.

Why we recommend it: The highest-rise Levi’s in production. True straight leg, button fly, all rigid cotton. The 501 for anyone who thinks the Wedgie isn’t high enough.
