The Universal Flare was Gap’s biggest hit of 2023-2024, and the tall version is the one worth buying if you’re 5’10″+. Standard-length flares are a death sentence on tall frames — the flare hits at the calf instead of the ankle, which looks like a botched alteration. Tall version measures 34 inches, with the flare kicking from the knee. On my 5’11” body, these hit at the top of my foot in flats and perfectly stacked over 2-inch heels.

Rise is a true 11 inches, fabric is a cotton-elastane blend (about 2% stretch), and the flare leg opening is 22 inches. Sizing runs true. Honest negatives: if you’re 6’+ or you have a long inseam, the 34″ will still leave the flare hitting mid-shin, which defeats the purpose — American Tall’s 36″ flare is a better option. The high rise is genuine 11″ — if you have a short torso, it may hit at the rib cage.

Why we recommend it: The viral flare in actual tall length. Flare kicks from the knee and hits at the top of the foot on most 5’10”-5’11” bodies. Don’t buy regular-length flares if you’re tall.
